Making Friends

Helmut and Serif have been noticing a lot more of each other lately. I'm not sure if it's the fact that Serif is beginning to have a little more presence through activity, eating cereal and finding his vocal chords or what but they show a lot more interest in each other. Serif will stare at Helmut a lot and will reach out to him. Helmut will come over and sniff Serif and just sort of check him out. It's been really cute. Jeff and I have both been surprised at how friendly Helmut is being to Serif. The older Helmut gets the grumpier and more sensitive he becomes, but he seems to put up with Serif pretty well so far. Helmut's been very gentle with him which is a wonderful thing.

Serif's First Easter Basket

Serif got his first Easter basket on Friday. When we got to Grandaddy's it was sitting on the table waiting for him. It was really cute. He got a Dr. Seuss 'Cat in the Hat' and a new spring button up shirt. It was even 18 month size so it should fit him good this summer. He's wearing mostly 12-18 month now so it's going to be perfect! It's in the wash now but when it's done I'll post a photo here.
Here he is in his Easter shirt. So cute! Okay, so I said it would be great for him this summer . . . perhaps I should've said this Spring? It fits great! If he starts to slim down come the summer maybe he can still wear it. The length has plenty of room but the shoulders and belly are fitting pretty dog-gone good. I love you my Serif! - Oh my goodness! I just realized he's 5 months today!!! (3.30.09)

A Visit to Grand Daddy's

It's been a little while since we've been to see Grand Daddy (my Dad . . . Michelle). I had 3 dentist appointments in January and Dad got to watch him all 3 times. It worked out perfectly with timing and everything. Well, February hit and Serif and I were both sick all month. March finally came and I felt that we were finally doing better so we tried to make it out to see him again but then they were sick and it didn't work out. Finally on Friday we were able to go see him. Serif has grown and changed a lot since January so it felt good to let them catch up a little. You don't realize quite how fast life goes until you can measure it through a child's growth and development. It's crazy. So anyways, we all had a great time catching up and I think Serif really enjoyed his time with his Grand Daddy. We love you Grand Daddy and we pray for you every night!

Our First Tomato!

Jeff and I decided to start a small organic garden this year. Our yard is small so we can't plant too big of a bed. Pops and Bob 'volunteered' and built us a great little raised bed to put in the backyard in front of the chicken coop (a.k.a. 'shed'). We filled the bed with organic soil and are going to try our best to grow some nice organic vegetables. We've planted 3 varieties of lettuce, garlic and onions so far. As I was planting the lettuce I couldn't help but notice this cute little tomato that surprisingly showed up in our bed! And I thought tomatoes were a warm season vegetable (well, fruit really). I think we're going to like gardening.

A Day at Dragon Park

Today we met up with some friends from church and had a picnic at Dragon Park in Hillsboro. We met about a year ago and have traveled through 2008 very similarly. Jeff and William hit it off right off the bat. I've never seen anyone so much like Jeff before William. Of coarse Karla and I hit it off as well. Fox and Serif are only about 2 months apart and although they don't know it yet they are going to be buddies. Looking around the park we're excited to think of bringing them back over the next few years and letting them run around and play. Mmmm . . . but not rushing anything though. So here's a few photos of the day.

A Few Favorites of the Week

I was talking to a friend yesterday and were discussing the 'digital age'. We have tons of photos of Serif but we have yet to process any. It's tough going through and picking out your favorites because you end up with so many that it almost defeats the purpose! Then, as you load all these photos in to a folder and see the quantity in there, you begin to calculate the expense of printing them all. Boy, I'm not sure how I'm ever going to get an album pulled together but since I was thinking about it, here are just a few of my favorites from this past week.

Happy Halloween?

So around Christmas time, I went online to the crazy8.com website and ordered Serif some clothes. I was checking out some of their clearance items and saw these really cute 'Mummy' pajamas that I couldn't resist buying. Well of coarse I thought of him being able to wear them for Halloween this year so I ordered the 12-18 months since he would be 12 months come Halloween. Well, as I was sorting though his clothes this week and realizing he was getting short of sleepers for bedtime, I opened the bottom drawer to find this set of pajamas laying in there. I pulled them out and held them up and they looked awfully close to what he was already wearing. We put them on him and they fit perfectly . . . and it's not even Easter yet!!! Well, then it prompted us to pull out the book 'The Nightmare Before Christmas' and get some pictures of him. He really got in to the illustrations in the book. Too cute.

What Serif will NOT be wearing for Easter

i'm sure i'll offend someone who has put their darling little boy in this type sailor outfit but that is not my intent. i was just amazed and a grandmothers passion for this outfit for her little grandson at the Once Upon A Child on saturday and got to thinking how there is no way Serif would be caught in it. we're starting to see a little bit of Serif's personality come out and with that there are certain outfits/clothes we like and dislike him in. this outfit does not match his personality. he looks great in black.

Strollin'

It was so nice outside Tuesday (like around 80!) that we were finally able to go for a long stroll without all the coats and blankets. Since Serif is growing so quickly we decided to take the bar off his stroller that holds his carseat and let him ride like a big boy. I couldn't believe how well he actually fit in there. The straps adjusted perfectly and he seemed to like it once he got strapped in. He stayed awake the entire walk and seemed to enjoy it except for the last couple blocks on our way back home. We then came home and sat out on the porch swing for a little bit before fixing dinner. It has certainly made us itch for Spring. It felt so good to get out!

Cereal!

Serif has been sleeping through the night for a long time now, but the past several nights he has been waking up at 2am hungry! When I told the doctor this he said he thinks it's time to start cereal! He said that he would normally say he's playing us at night and just wanting us to come get him, but given his size the poor guy's really probably hungry. I think we're going to start that tonight and see how he does. (written the night of the doctor's appointment)

So we tried the cereal Tuesday night (after the doctor's appointment). He really wasn't feeling very well that night so it probably wasn't the best time to try him out on it. The photos show exactly how it went. Not well. He wasn't too happy to begin with, then I don't think he appreciated putting anything else 'out of the ordinary' in his mouth. I think he'd had enough of that from the day before. We haven't tried it again this week because he's been sleeping better. Maybe he thinks it's better to sleep than to be given cereal? We'll see how things go this week.
Keep checking back on the past few posts (including the jumperoo one). I've not had the chance to load all our photos yet. I do plan to come back and add a little more. Serif's waking now - gotta go!

Beginnings of Teething

I think Serif is beginning to teeth. He's always gone to sleep pretty easily and all it would take is for me to lay him back in a cradle position, give him his pacifier and in a matter of seconds he'd close his eyes spit out the pacifier and start winding down. When I lay him in his crib he shifts a little, but will go right off to sleep with no questions asked. Well . . . this week also posed a new question about this routine. He is now chewing on the pacifier instead of sucking on it and then spits it out and chews on both thumbs! Now along with that comes lots of jabbering/fussing. It takes him about 5-10 minutes of this before he finally falls asleep. The doctor says that Tylenol is okay to give him and he also recommended these teething tablets. They dissolve immediately upon putting them in his mouth and apparently help sooth the pain of teething. We've not tried that yet, but they're now on-hand and ready when we feel we need them. Needless to say this week has been full of adjusting to new things. It's like I'm getting a different baby (sort-of).

(video to come - check back)

He's also enjoying his hands at other times too. Here's a few photos.
