First Sick Visit

so friday was Serif's first sick visit to the doctor. he's been battling a cold since the beginning of february, but around wednesday of this past week he began a deep congested cough. we got worried enough come friday that i called the doctor to find out what i needed to do. the nurse said that since he hasn't been seen yet with this cold then we should bring him on in. so that's what we did. turns out he has bronciolitis. it's not bronchitis, but it is contagious. the doc said that if he doesn't kick it within the next 2 or 3 days to bring him back in. so . . . keep the prayers going that he's able to knock this thing and not have to go back. i got the cold right after him, then Jeff got this cough thing about a week ago, then Serif and now i'm starting that too. good grief. it's just as the doctor said, 'welcome to february with a child'. enough said about that.

one more little tid bit of information. he weighed in at 17 lbs 10 oz! he has officially more than doubled his birth weight . . . and he's not even 4 months yet. hmmm... from what we've read that should be typical at 6 months. he has his 4 month appointment scheduled next week. we'll see how that goes. They did say he's doing great and is normal and healthy (other than this viral thing that everyone seems to have right now.)

Piggy Back

so i came home from the store the other night and as i pulled in the driveway i saw Jeff and Serif in the window like this. it cracked me up. Jeff has so much fun with Serif and is always more daring than me in the things he will try with him. i guess as a mother i tend to be a bit more timid with this type stuff. i absolutely love how Jeff interacts with him though and couldn't resist sharing this photo. just within the past 2 weeks he has really become quite strong with his back and neck. enough so that we can finally put him in his little pod chair without him acting like a noodle. we tried him in a friends bumbo chair but his legs were too fat to fit comfortably. atleast he fits in this one for now. the little tray just skims past the tops of his legs and his belly has just enough room to fit. poor guy. maybe as he starts to crawl he'll start to slim down a little. although i must admit i kind of like his fat. it's cute when you know it's not from mcdonalds and potato chips.

Finding the Fist

Serif's discovery this week has been finding his fist. He's so fun to watch as he discovers that it may actually be attached to him and the idea that he may even have some control of what this strange little thing can do! He's beginning to swat at things, grab hair and really just a bunch of swinging of the arms. He doesn't have a lot of control yet, but it's only the beginning. Here are a few photos from this past Monday.

Serif & Dr. Seuss

Not sure why I wasn't going to post this, but after emailing the photos to a few people I've changed my mind. This was taken on Monday . . . I'm losing track of weeks so we'll just say he's still 3 months. =) I've been pretty adamant about reading to Serif. My dad bought me a small collection of the Dr. Seuss books for Christmas several years ago because I had mentioned how much fun i remember those books being. Well, now that we have Serif he's digging them pretty well too. This ABC book is one of his favorites of the collection and I've been reading it to him almost daily. I also have to sing him the ABC's and he seems to like that too. Well, at new years this year we visited my Aunt Janice and a lot of family were there. Hannah and Emma (Serif's 2nd cousins?) were there and gave him this Dr. Seuss onesie which is fitting him perfectly right now. So anyways, I just thought it would be cute to get a picture of him in it along with his favorite (& mine too) Dr. Suess book.

Daycare Poster

So we're a little late getting Serif's poster pulled together for his daycare, but nevertheless it's finally done. The daycare is having their inspection this Friday and Ms. Lisa (one of his teachers) said that she'd like her room to be pulled together before they come.

All the kids are sent home with a poster board and the parents are to create a fun board for thier child. She said we could do whatever we wanted. Most people do things that are familiar to them or family photos, siblings, pets, etc. I'd say most posters look like a scrapbook page and are pretty cute. Jeff said that Serif's needed to be tops, so here's our take of his board. We think he'll have fun with it and love seeing it everyday. He did seem to enjoy it as we were putting it together last night. He even studied it this morning before we left for daycare. I think he digs it. They're even going to laminate it so it can move with him as he gets older and moves to his next class.

The week Serif turned 3 Months

So there's been a lot going on this past week since Serif's turned 3 months. We did our first road trip to Cincinnati this past weekend and he did great! He stayed pretty content the entire trip and also slept through the night just as if he were here at home. We got to stay with Jeff's Aunt Marilyn and Uncle Kenny while we were up and also got to see Mike, Shelly, Mark, Holly & kids. Friday night we saw the Pattersons, this really great family we got to know from our old church in Cincy. It's tough to catch up 3 years of lost time in 3 hours! It was GREAT to see them though and at least catch up a little. Then Saturday we did the tattoo thing (see other post) and went to see Mary, Eric and Ella (Mary and Ella with Serif in above photo). How CUTE is Ella!?! I met Mary at our church in Cincinnati and she has become my closest, dearest and best friend! I miss her dearly! We also got to hang out and have dinner with her folks, John, Valerie and Sam. Valerie has been otherwise known as our Cincinnati Mom. Since both Jeff and my moms are gone I have decided to have Valerie be Serif's Grandma. She's a great one! Too bad we're not closer to spend more time with everyone. I guess it's just more excuses for us to keep making the trips up. We enjoy them so much! Here's Grandma Valerie and her son Sam holding Serif. This has also been the week that I've started back to work a couple days a week and Serif's full days at daycare. He's such a trooper. He's done really well adusting to the new routine, but is having to get use to all the noise daycare brings. He's only use to Helmut and Bingo noises, not to be discounted as low key noise by any means . . . just different I guess. Apparently he's had a bit of trouble sleeping in daycare because of that, but otherwise doing well.

It's been easier than expected going back to work. They're keeping me very busy which is a great thing to keep me focused. It certainly makes the days go quicker and I'm ready to go get Serif by 4:00! The evenings are short on those days and will take some adjusting since I'm use to having him all day long, but that will come with time. I'm so busy at work that I may work more than my 2 days next week to help meet a deadline that is quickly approaching. I feel guilty not being there when they're that busy! I brought a laptop home with me for the weekend, but I'm not too sure if I'll actually get much done.

When I got back to my desk after a luncheon on Tuesday there was a bouquet of flowers next to my computer with a card from Serif. He's so sweet to send Momma flowers!!! He even wrote me a little card!
The other new thing this week is Serif's first cold. He began coughing last week and we noticed it even more on Sunday. When we picked him up from daycare on Tuesday he had the watery eyes, runny nose and cough. Poor guy just looked beat. He slept practically all day Wednesday and has just seemed a bit under the weather. Then yesterday by the end of my work day I started with the sore throat. Great. I guess we just go through it together.

As content and good as Serif seems to be, today h
as been the first day that I have been unable to console him very well. Since 1:00 this afternoon he's been fussing/crying practically nonstop (It's 4:00 now). He took a nap in my arms around 2:00 because he just wouldn't calm down any other way. At 3:00 I tried to feed him (1 hour late) and he's just not really wanting to eat. I've got a call in to the doctor to find out what else to do. I just gave him some Tylenol so hopefully that will do the trick. His temperature was 99.4 so not quite high enough to see the doc. They like it to be above 100 before coming in. The nurse is talking to the doctor now and will call me back on what to do (bring him in or offer solutions). I'll update the post when I find out. Hey, wait a minute, I think he's calming down in his crib and going to sleep. I've not heard a peep in about 10 minutes now. Shhhhhheeeeew!

So before 1:00 today, he's been his normal self. Here are a few photos taken from this morning. We did a bath early this morning and then he sat in the bouncer in the bathroom while I showered. The nurse said the steam would be good for congestion. He seemed to like it because he took a really great long nap! These little booties having cute little flying pigs on them. Our friend Katie got him those and they finally fit! Here he is looking all big and stuff. I think I've decided to start taking more photos in the glider because it's really showing his scale well. Mary made him the blanket on the back of the glider and the shirt is from Mary and Valerie. So cute! They also made him some really cute burp cloths and a little photo album that matches the blanket. It's so sweet and so special! Thanks guys!!! Everything's been SO perfect! He just keeps getting bigger and bigger!

Serifs First Tattoo

there are moment or milestones that every father looks forward to. one of mine was achieved (earlier than expected) this past weekend when Serif went to see Dana and got his first tattoo.

here we are waiting to see Dana and although i don't look it, i am quite excited for my little guy. (that's my good friend Brian in the background, tryin' to be all cool and "i'm not goona look at the camera but it's too late to get out of the photo . . .")

Dana is such a master he doesn't use a stencil all the time. sometimes he draws right on the skin like what he's doing here to Serif.

then the real fun begins when he gets out the machine - Genuine Electric Tattoo.

the finished product - sort of - a flower to match dads.

Serif took it well and even posed with Dana afterwards. what a great saturday.
